Heirloom Tomato a la Plancha

The inspiration for this recipe was to elevate the flavors in an heirloom tomato by using the a la plancha method.   A la plancha means, to grill on a metal plate. In our recipe, we use a cast iron griddle.

Heirloom Tomato a la Plancha

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tomato
  • dash of granulated garlic
  • dash of italian seasoning
Instructions
  1. Wash and core the top of the tomato and cut into quarters only using half per serving, then season with all spices.
  2. Preheat the plancha or grill to high heat.
  3. Sear tomato on all sides for 3-4 minutes to get nice caramelization.
  4. This should cook the outsides of the tomato but keep the nice heirloom flavor as you cut into it.

Notes
These tomatoes make a great side dish to any protein or salad. Although many people consider tomato a vegetable, it is actually a fruit and contains a higher amount of sugar.
