I might be a little bit in love with iced coffee… ok you have me, it’s a full on love affair. Not only do I love the flavor, but the ritual of drinking and the wondrous effects of caffeine. And although I love going to Starbucks as much as the next girl, my wallet does not. So a couple years ago I searched all these different ways to make homemade iced coffee but all of them took a lot of pre-planning and time (both of which I don’t want to bother with at 6 AM).
So what’s an iced-coffee-frugal-non-morning-person to do? Hack it of course!
I found 50 packs of Starbucks Via on amazon from about $38 (including tax and shipping). This comes out to $0.75/Venti Iced Coffee vs. the $2.95 in-store price! The Vias are delicious and strong and make for the perfect iced coffee in less than 1 minute without have to do any planning.
When I’m on P2 I also like to purchase the decaf version and have a glass blended for dessert. Also my favorite natural sweetener to add is Sweet Leaf Toffee Nut. Here’s how it all comes together:
- 1 Starbucks Via packet
- 12-18 oz water
- 8-12 ice cubes
- Natural Sweetener to taste
- Empty content of one via packet info a very large glass or measuring cup
- Add 1/8 cup hot water and swirl until all the coffee is dissolved. If desired you can also add sweetener. Note: It’s very important to use hot water here. If you use cold water the Via won’t fully dissolve and you’ll have ground in the bottom of your glass (yuck).
- Add ice cubes then fill the rest of your cup (or measuring cup) with water.
- If I don’t have a cup the size of a venti around I will often make it in a large measuring cup/bowl and have two well-iced small glasses.
